Overview

As an Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant, you will help drive the growth and profitability of SPGC. You will build broker relationships and leverage your expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit to build your book. Surrounded by a team of experienced practice leaders, managers, and executives, we provide an extensive array of products, ample capacity, and empowerment to enable your success. In this role, you will work collaboratively with your colleagues and management to provide value added expertise and exceptional service to our broker partners.

This is an office-based position with the potential to transition to a hybrid arrangement after the probationary period, based in either our Langley or Salmon Arm office.

Responsibilities

This position will:

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with underwriters and brokers through discussions and correspondence;
  • Processes and issue documents as instructed by Underwriters and Managers;
  • Meeting service standard and turnaround time with respect to issuance of documents;
  • Support Managers and Underwriters with general administrative tasks;
  • Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms;
  • Work closely with underwriters to assist with the underwriting functions;
  • Documents observations made during pre-reviews of files to assist underwriters;
  • Completes renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority;
  • Perform underwriting support functions at the direction of underwriters including bind confirmations, and certificates with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Preparing Certificates of Insurance;
  • Editing & formatting of documents using a variety of software & programs;
  • Reviewing documents for accuracy;
  • Maintain/ innovate administrative workflow procedures to increase efficiency;
  • Communicate internally with other departments via e-mail and telephone;
  • Communicate externally with brokers as required; and
  • Build and maintain electronic, and any applicable hard copy, records following established guidelines and processes.

Qualifications

You’re a good fit if you have:

  • Have at least 1-2 years of experience with transferrable skills in Customer service, administration or insurance;
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a broker license within first year of employment;
  • Have good communication skills;
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word;
  • Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge;
  • Are familiar with the basic legal structures in Canada; and
  • Can work in office full time at either our Langley or Salmon Arm office during training period. Hybrid working arrangements can be discussed after successful completion of the probation period.

Salary Range:

The expected salary range for this position is from $40,000 – $45,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
