Beacon Special Events

The story beyond your coverage.

Fast, Flexible, and Fully Covered for your Event

Beacon Special Events, Now Part of MySPG

Whether it’s a one-day backyard wedding or a multi-day music festival, Beacon Special Events is built to make sure your event runs smoothly, no matter what the day brings.

More and more often, venues, sponsors, and municipalities are asking event hosts to provide proof of liability coverage. From wedding receptions to rodeos, from softball tournaments to community fundraisers, the requirement is the same: someone needs to show they’re covered. Beacon by SPG Canada offers a Special Events program that provides short-term coverage for a wide range of activities, including liability protection and defence costs against claims of negligence.

What started as Beacon is now Beacon by SPG Canada, and it’s part of MySPG: the same coverage you trust, with a clearer connection to the broader SPG Canada family.

Whether you’re planning the day you’ve been dreaming of for years, organizing a festival your community looks forward to, or running a tournament that brings people together, your event is more than a date on a calendar. It’s where your story happens. We make sure that story is protected.

What Beacon Special Events covers?

Beacon Special Events is a short-term liability program designed for the specific risks event hosts face. Subject to policy conditions, it provides:

  • Third-party liability coverage — protection if someone is injured or property is damaged at your event

  • Defence costs — legal defence against claims of negligence brought against the event host

  • Coverage tailored to the event — single-day or multi-day options to match how long your event actually runs

  • Proof of insurance for venues and sponsors — certificates of insurance available when venues, parks, sponsors, or municipalities ask for them

Events we can cover

Beacon Special Events covers a wide range of activities. Here’s a sample of what fits the program:

  • Social events — Barbecues and backyard gatherings, birthday parties, anniversary parties, family reunions, weddings and wedding receptions, and auctions

  • Entertainment events — Dog shows, hay rides, fashion shows, concerts and music festivals, rodeos, car shows, arts and crafts festivals, parades, and community celebrations

  • Business events — Trade shows, conferences and conventions, corporate galas, product launches, food vendors, and pop-up markets

  • Sporting events — Tournaments, hockey camps, martial arts events and demonstrations, slo-pitch and softball tournaments, golf events, and recreational competitions

If your event doesn’t appear on this list, ask your insurance broker. Many event types not listed here are still eligible.

When to think about event insurance?

Special event coverage often becomes a topic of conversation after the venue or sponsor asks for proof of insurance, which is usually weeks before the event. Ideally, it’s something you arrange earlier:

  • As soon as you book the venue — many venues require proof of insurance before they’ll confirm your booking

  • When you sign with vendors or sponsors — vendors and corporate sponsors often need to see liability coverage

  • Before tickets go on sale — for any event open to the public

  • Before you finalize the budget — so the coverage cost is part of your planning, not a last-minute add-on

Why Beacon by SPG Canada?
  • Built for event hosts — not a watered-down commercial policy, but a program designed around the realities of running an event

  • Short-term by design — coverage matches the length of your event, whether that’s one day, one weekend, or a full week

  • Broad eligibility — from intimate weddings to large festivals, with room for the unusual events most insurers shy away from

  • Defence costs included — legal defence is part of the coverage, not a separate add-on

  • Certificates when you need them — your broker can provide proof of insurance for venues, sponsors, and municipalities

  • A name behind the name — Beacon Special Events is now part of mySPG, the policyholder community of SPG Canada

Ask your insurance broker

Your broker is the person who can match Beacon Special Events to your event, your venue, and your guest count. They’ll help you understand what’s covered, what isn’t, and how to make sure your certificate of insurance shows up in time for the venue.

A note on the name

You may have known us simply as Beacon. We’re now Beacon by SPG Canada, part of the MySPG community. Beacon Special Events is the same coverage, same team, same broad eligibility — just a clearer connection to the SPG Canada family that has stood behind your policy all along.
