Job Overview
We are currently looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our growing team. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support our underwriters in their day-to-day tasks. Working as part of a team, you are responsible for the efficiency and accuracy of timely invoicing of policy premiums to reflect on weekly revenues reporting and issuance of policy documents.
This is a hybrid position with the standard of 3 days in office and 2 days at home. With a preference to be based in the Greater Toronto Area.
Responsibilities
In this position you will:
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with underwriters and brokers through verbal and written communication
- Follow department procedure guidelines, bulletins, and tools
- Process new business policies, renewals, endorsements change and ordering of inspections as instructed by underwriters and managers
- Daily invoicing of policy premiums within 48-72 hours of activity.
- Review all policy documents, ensuring all wordings are attached and premiums invoiced match the contracts and percentage before issuance.
- Meeting service standard and turnaround time with respect to issuance of documents.
- Responding to our broker partners and internal customers with a sense of urgency
- Coordinate with underwriters and accounts department to resolve any underwriting issues or broker payment discrepancies
- Ensure all emails and issued policy documents are attached to the correct file.
- Support Managers, underwriters, and coworkers on your segments during month end processes and vacations as needed
- Communicate internally with other departments via e-mail, Microsoft Teams and telephone
Qualifications and Characteristics
You’re a good fit if you have:
- Have at least 1 year of experience with transferrable skills in customer service, administration or insurance
- Ability and willingness to obtain a broker license within one year.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
- Strong time management, problem solving and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Lloyds contracts is an asset
- Comfortable with a routine that involves daily repetition
- Currently pursuing or open to pursuing an insurance designation (CIP or CAIB preferred).
- Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge
- Technical competency with office equipment including printers and scanners. Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Can work in one of our offices at least three days a week and two days at home.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is from $40,000 – $45,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
